George Mueller
George was born in Prussia in 1805. His father was a tax collector for the government. George was only 10 years old when he became a thief, stealing tax money from his father. He lied about it and gambled the money away.
His mother died when he was 14, but he didn't care. He was too busy playing cards and drinking with his friends. George's father wanted him to be a clergyman, so sent him off to Halle in Germany to study divinity. But George was still drinking, gambling, lying and even stealing from his friends.
He didn't care what God thought of him.
You will seek me and find me when you search for me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13
A friend invited George to a prayer meeting one night. George went out of curiosity. He saw an old man kneel and pray, and was impressed with how genuine and sincere the man was.
He decided that he wanted to be like him, and became a Christian. He immediately stopped drinking, stealing and lying, and wanted to be a missionary. He started preaching in the nearby churches.
His father was NOT happy. He had wanted him to be a comfortable clergyman, being paid to do very little.

This is the confidence we have before Him: If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 1 John 5:14

George went to England and was horrified at the number of orphan children living in the streets. He built orphanages to care for them.
George never asked people for donations. He took all his problems to God and asked Him to do something. And God did.
The children sat down for breakfast one morning but there was no food. They said grace anyway, thanking God.
There was a knock at the door, and there stood a baker with enough bread for all the hungry children. He said God impressed him to bake something for them early that morning.
He left and a few moments later there was another knock on the door. The milkman's cart had broken down in front of the orphanage and he could not deliver the milk that day, so said they could have it.
And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

Mueller prayed about everything and expected each prayer to be answered.
His faith in God was strong and he spent hours in daily prayer and Bible reading.
He read right through the Bible 4 times a year.

To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.
Martin Luther

Psalm 107.1
True prayer is a way of life, not just for use in cases of emergency. Make it a habit and when the need arises you will be in practice.
